Play a Google Photos slideshow on any screen

Your best photos live in Google Photos; your spare screens live in drawers and on counters. Google gives you casting and TV apps for some devices, but there is a simpler, more universal answer: if a screen has a web browser, it can play your Google Photos slideshow - full screen, with a clock, running for weeks untouched.

How it works

MyFrames signs you in with Google and opens Google's own photo picker - the official, read-only way to hand an app specific photos. You choose exactly which photos the frame may show; MyFrames can never browse or search the rest of your library. The photos are then relayed straight to the screen that plays them and cached only on that device - never stored on MyFrames servers.

Three steps to a slideshow

  1. On a phone or laptop, go to myframes.app, sign in with Google, and pick the photos for your frame.
  2. On the screen you want to use, open its browser, sign in, and start the frame.
  3. That's it. The slideshow plays full screen with a clock overlay, optional shuffle, letterbox blur fill for portrait shots, and a slide delay you can tune per device.

Screens that make good frames

  • An old iPad or Android tablet - the classic shelf frame.
  • A Meta Portal or other smart display with a built-in browser.
  • A TV whose browser can load modern websites.
  • A spare monitor on any computer - open the browser, press play, go full screen.

The one requirement is honest and simple: the screen's browser must be able to load a modern web page. If it can, it's a frame.

Common questions

Can MyFrames show my whole Google Photos library automatically?

No, and that's deliberate. MyFrames uses Google's read-only picker scope, so it can only ever see the photos you explicitly pick - it cannot browse or search your library. Picking is the privacy model.

Do I need to install anything on the screen?

No. The slideshow runs in the screen's web browser. On tablets you can optionally add MyFrames to the home screen as a web app for a cleaner full-screen start.

How do I add new photos later?

Open your frame's settings and pick again - Google's picker reopens and you choose what to add. The playing device picks up the new selection.

Where are my photos stored?

They stay in Google Photos. MyFrames relays them to your display while the slideshow plays and caches them only on that device; its servers and database never store your photo files.

What about iCloud?

Paste a link to a public iCloud shared album and MyFrames plays it the same way - useful when one family member uses iPhone photos and the frame lives in an Android or Google household.
